This week on Thursday, we had to give a speech/ share our presentation for inquiry. Our topic was the 8 millennium goals. We had to choose a development goal. I chose goal number 4: reduce child mortality. We had to research the targets for this goal, some good reasons for why it needs to happen, and how aid agencies are helping achieve this goal. We also had to think of how it relates to our inquiry unit – how can we build a just world? We did a plan, then had to make some little prompt cards to read while we did our presentations. On Thursday the grade 5s and some of the year 6s sheared our presentations, while mr Parratte gave us a score in our inquiry books then we were done.
On Tuesday the 20th of May we went to Warrnambool Collage for a super sports extravaganza. When we got there we were put into groups. I was in group 4 with Chloe and Skye. There were 5 sport activities we had to have a go at.
The teachers who ran the groups would give out some special tickets throughout the day. If you got a ticket you would get a prize. The prizes were: drink bottles, stress balls, hackie sacks, bouncy balls etc.
The first one my group went to was soccer. It had some really fun activities. Like running, dribbling goal kicking and head butting the ball. Bridie got the ticket for soccer in our group. The next activity was netball, then basketball, then hockey and after that, footy.
For netball we worked on shooting, passing, attacking and defending. Then we played a small game of netball. For netball, Trey got the ticket in our group. After 22 minutes the siren went to tell us it was time to change over. It was time for basketball.
In basketball we did a few activities. They were; passing shooting dribbling and a couple more. My favourite one was shooting. No one got. A ticket for that. At the end of basketball it was time to move onto hockey.
The first thing we did was running. We had to run laps of a course for 4 minutes. I did 13 laps. Our second one was hitting the ball into the goals. It was hard to get the right technique.
On Tuesday the 11th of March, the Geelong footy players came school! There were 3 players: Hamish Mcintosh, josh Caddy and Jed Bews. They introduced themselves and we asked questions. Then we went outside and they taught us how to kick, handball and mark. Some of the teachers tried mark the ball but they all missed! That was funny.
Yesterday, on March the 4th, 5/6N & 5/6C went to the Merri Marine Sanctuary to go rock pool rambling (looking at/in rock pools). We were doing this for science. At 9:00am, we got on the bus and left to go to the rock pools.
When we got there, we got into groups of 4. I was in a group with Starsha, Jasmine, Chloe and her dad, we were the first group to go and look at the rock pools.
On Tuesday, at school the years 3-6 ran a choice of 800 metres or 1500 metres. I was in the 11 year old girls and ran the 800 metres. Jasmine won the 11 year old 800 metres, Charli came 2nd Lauren came 3rd and maya came 4th. It was close between Tahli and I but Tahli just bet me, came 5th, and I came 6th. Skye crossed the finish line not long after me followed by Bridie and then Imogen came 9th. Lucky Stella who ran in both 800 and 1500 metres won both of them and is through to inter school (the top two go through). It was a great and tiring day I went to bed early that night.
On Monday the 21st of October we had to get up early to go to the zoo. We left at 6:30am and came back at 3:15. My favourite animals were: the fairy penguins, the baby giraffe and the baby elephant plus the meerkats and the lions. I really loved Bay the seal when she put on the seal show and told her story. She waved at us, made big splashes, put some rope in the bin and even played dead. IT WAS THE BEST SCHOOL EXCURSION EVER!!
On a cold, drizzly winter Monday 3/4k & 3/4a went to Logan’s beach to go whale watching. When we got there we saw a southern right whale poke its back slightly out of the water. Then we saw the fluke (tail) come out. Everyone spotted the mother whale teaching its baby how to do tricks. There were also two seals swimming around and showing off. I had a wonderful time so did everyone els.
